Timing in the Birth Chart Calculating the Age Point

The Huber Age Point is perhaps one of the most captivating tools for those new to Huber. The natal chart becomes a virtual clock with the hand of the clock starting at birth at the AC, moving anti-clockwise. Those who try it find significant correspondences with inner and outer developments. It continues to scare the heck out me (in a beautifully relational way)! Having a timing system act in such a visual manner, using the natal chart as its root is very profound as we get to “stay” with the chart and all its components.

The purpose of this articles is meant to brief in providing basic calculation for the AP. To understand why/how and when to use Age Point (hint, the answer is ALWAYS and first, before other progressions and transits) I would start with Joyce Hopewell’s book - Using Age Point Progression

Best Option: Buy the software. https://catharastrologysoftware.com/en/en-cathar-software-astrology/ Contact Juan and let him know what you’re interested in. Huber astrology is very visual and the bonus of having specific software for Huber includes other Huber-specific functions such as defining aspect figures, and various reports and calculations we repeatedly use to great effect.

Option #2: Use astro.com to derive your charts and marry them up with my simple calculations for finding the Age Point. Below are the basic steps to deriving a table of age point aspects. This is very handy and might be all you need, however the second part (further below) on calculating the age point is most valuable.

Head to astro.com, create your chart, and then go to Extended Chart Selection

Make sure to select Koch Houses!! Select Huber Style from Chart Drawing Style

After your chart is drawn you can click PDF Additional Tables. In here are your Age Point listings.

Here’s an example from my chart.. For example, note on 3 March 1986 there was a square to my Sun. Note: the capital “M” refers to the Moon Node chart’s age point timing system. I would recommend avoiding these age points for now. They act on a karmic, subliminal, shadow level.

You now have a proper Huber Chart and a list of age points with aspects. This step will allow you to map out ages around the perimeter of the chart and/or quickly figure out your age and corresponding position on your chart. Here’s the formula:

  1. Count the degrees in any given house. Note — it’s ALWAYS 6 years per house no matter what size of house. This is why we need to do a calculation.

  2. Divide the house size by 6

  3. Mark the yearly progressions within the house. For example, if the house size is 24 degrees from cusp of 5th to the cusp of the 6th then 24/6 = 4 degrees. You can then hand-write a year for every 4 degrees in that house (and ONLY that house since the next house will likely be a different size. This is why the software is so handy…

Notes:

You can quickly and roughly figure out the general age by simply looking. We know that each house is 6 years, so cusp of 2nd house is 6 years old and the DC is 36 years old. It’s the ages throughout each house that require calculations (see image below).

Keep it simple! halfway between cusp 1st house and 2nd house is going to be roughly age 3- it can be as easy as that.

Orbs: The listing of age points in the astro.com tables give exact dates for the aspects and age points. However, the effect of that upcoming aspect can occur months ahead of time. It’s difficult to give an exact orb as each person’s inner awareness is different. However, 3-5 months before and 2-3 months after works well and I would recommend starting with that timeframe. For example, the exact date of my Sun square in 1986 was Feb 27 but I might have been “in orb” and experiencing the effect 3-5 months ahead of time and 2-3 months after (I was 3, so who knows!). The effect is best likened to a gong, where we become increasingly aware of the planetary energy or aspect as we move closer.
